Surprising Needs for an AC DC Adapter
Are you an electrician or someone that understand the laws of physics? If not, you may struggle with understanding how things like electricity work and what makes them dangerous and useful at the same time. When you’re told that you need adapter, this may be a simplistic explanation for traveling and for keeping your appliances safe, but there are other reasons you may need this tiny device. They can keep you safe at home and can cut down on fire hazards and other dangers as well.
You don’t need to be an electrician to understand polarity in electricity. Like magnets, electricity needs a negative and a positive connection; electricity can only exist when there are two points between which is can flow or circulate. This is what’s called the conducting of electricity. An AC DC adapter is one that controls the polarity of devices so that electricity can continue to be connected or flow. If you try to connect two AC sources, there will be no electricity or an overflow of electricity as it flows back on itself. They makes one end either an AC or a DC so that the electricity source can be connected.
When you travel to a different country, you may notice that the wall plugs are different than the ones at home. This is why needed for many trips abroad. Their electricity may start with one polarity and your appliances (hair dryers, curling irons, contact lens cleaners) are the same polarity. So that the polarity of your appliances is switched and the circuit of electricity is complete. Without this adapter the electricity is trying to run between two poles that are the same and there is no circuit between which it can flow.
But you may need them at home as well. When there is not proper polarity on your appliances, this can cause an electricity overflow as the power returns to itself. This is often why you need a surge protector for many of your appliances; if there is this surge of electricity is can return to your appliances or computer or other products and damage them.
When you notice that your plugs are not compatible, you don’t want to try to force anything or worse yet, cut off a plug from a cord. Some make the mistake of doing this to force a cord or plug into a wall. Instead, you want to use adapter to properly ground the electricity and give it a good circuit so that it can flow and return safely. Trying to handle it any other way can result in an overflow of electricity which means damage to your objects and even a fire hazard. So use an adapter when necessary, whether you’re traveling or at home, and remember that you don’t need to be an electrician to understand electricity enough to handle it safely!
